Trip to Bradford Media Museum

So when Hannah finally arrived we set off for Bradford Media Museum..
Heres one I made earlier.. I cant tell you how genuinely excited I was to see this Martin Parr and Tony Ray Jones exhibition..

I took loads of pis for reference if anything, the wall panels were really informative, as were the displays in the glass cases so read them!

Looking at Tony Ray Jones' notes was amazing, it felt like a real insight into his approach and working methods and made me feel better as a practitioner- I always end up with loads of notes of what to do more or less of, turns out successful people do this too!

What notes do you make for your shoot plan? How do you approach a subject or even decide on one? Tony was obviously a very perceptive guy but also motivated to go out and shoot the world around him, even if there was no definite outcome
The harsh realities of life as a photographer! For every shot that falls into your lap, theres another that took hours of standing in a cold, wet place to wait for all the elements to align, without facebook to keep you entertained!

Anyone feel better about their scruffy notes? There's a reason we go through research and development phases, every professional does it in some way..

This was a really strong exhibition, I felt the inclusion of Ray Jones' diarys and planning notes really helped you understand his creative process. The inclusion of all these contact sheets also showed what came before and after the images that made the cut, so you could better understand what he was trying to capture. Also it showed that there were usually only one or two final images from each roll of film- not every image was amazing, just like everyone else

I think this is one of my favourite images from the whole show. Its such a simple thing, a man in a doorframe, but the structured lines of the cobblestones, doorframe and brickwork all work with each other to create an interesting harmony, then the triangular shape of the stepladder works against this, so many strong geometric shapes are created. An everyday action captured at the right moment to create a visually striking image- an approach that is at the heart of Parr's work

This image reminds me of Alfred Stieglitz's The Steerage 1907 (shown below) which was one of the first Modernism works. I saw a print when I came to Bradford in the first week of my degree and found it really inspiring.

Once we had bullied all the school kids off we had a go at presenting the weather..
OH MY GOD SOPHIE LOOK OUT!! THERES A DINOSAUR CHASING YOU!!!!!!
Here you can see just what its like to work in a production office. It was literally the most boring exhibit I have ever seen in a museum ever.
Fun Stuff!
Yes I have lost weight, thanks for asking!
Would be more impressive if there was an explanation as to how a camera obscura is made and if it didn't just look like a video feed

So many me's!

The worlds first negative? How cool!! Loving how we invented photography..

If you didn't have a go on this there is something wrong with you! Hi Harry and Lewis and Adrianne!

Spice girls polaroid camera? Definitely remember them..

Haania hennaing.. Now say that fast three times..
Practising designs for Eid on Allie, this pic clearly doesn't show the speed either, this girl is good!
This Magnum exhibition about industry maybe didn't have the most exciting images but it was really interesting to see how each established photographer approached the same brief- to document Britain's manufacturing industry in specific areas of the country
Although I found these images with harsh lighting and an exaggerated wide angle rather unflattering, not quite sure why you would do that to the subjects?

Sonic and Tails played by Arthur and Jason

William Eggleston eat your heart out!
And then the crash!! FYI lorry driver, if it looks to tight to get through, it probably is! Oh and nice try on driving away, shame the police were already there innit!
Debris. Other than that a grand day out.
